KONYA – 2026 EUROPEAN CYCLING CAPITAL

SPECIAL ISSUE

International Call for Papers

Cities in the 21st century are undergoing profound transformations in terms of environmental sustainability, transportation systems, public health, quality of life, and the use of public spaces. Within this transformation, active mobility policies have become increasingly prominent in discussions on urban planning, transport management, and sustainable development. In particular, bicycle-oriented urban policies provide a significant field of research for the development of low-carbon transportation systems, the creation of accessible public spaces, and the redesign of urban life.

Konya's designation as the "2026 European Cycling Capital" provides an important platform for academic discussions on urban mobility and cycling policies. With its long-established cycling infrastructure, capacity to host international sporting events, and vision for sustainable transportation, Konya has emerged as a remarkable model city for contemporary debates in this field.

In this context, the Sustainable Welfare Journal invites national and international scholars to contribute to the "Konya 2026 European Cycling Capital Special Issue."

The special issue aims to explore the relationship between cycling and cities through the lenses of urban planning, transportation policies, governance, public health, social behavior, city branding, data-driven mobility management, and comparative urban studies. In addition to Konya-focused research, comparative, theoretical, and applied studies from different countries and cities are also welcomed.
